Assassin-in-chief

Commentators on both sides of the ideological spectrum have charged Obama with inconsistency in his targeted killings. However, while his policy is undoubtedly incoherent in many respects, there is an underlying consistency. Obama is a social engineer. A radical technocrat.

This means he loves controlling other people. And imagine the adrenal rush it gives him to wield the power of life and death over lesser mortals. To hold somebody’s fate in his hands. To decide who lives and who dies.

No wonder he takes such a personal interest in the kill list. It’s the ultimate power-trip. The next-best thing to godhood.

  1. And his drone kill list allows him to be jury, judge, and executioner.

  2. Don't be hating on Obama for this. I disagree with him on just about every other matter and think he really does intend to destroy the concepts of liberty on which this country is based, but I agree entirely with him on the drone policy: it's the one thing he's doing right.

You can't confuse the ethics of warfare with "rights" in non-combatant situations, such as rights of citizens. That's a confusion of categories. Give him credit where credit is due. Also, I suppose he is just filtering expert information given to him by his advisors. He did not wake up one day and think, "I want to tyrannize over people with drones".

  3. I wasn't commenting on the merits of the policy.
