Helm on divine impassibility

http://www.rpcbmt.org/DivineImpassibility.html

I tried to leave this link at Bob Gonzales's blog, but he didn't approve it. It's a pity that Gonzales raises objections but disregards answers. If that's how he teaches, then he's setting a bad example for his students.

  1. I once got into an argument with one of the elders of my church over the importance of divine impassibility. At the time I rejected it and considered it thoroughly unbiblical. Now I see it as 'unbiblical' only in the sense that saying that God does not literally have a hand is 'unbiblical'.

If you hold to impassibility then the idea that God truly wants all to be saved but that only some are saved literally makes no sense. God doesn't have unfulfilled desires.
